Plane crash in northern Kenya kills two French filmmakers

A plane crash in the Samburu National Reserve in northern Kenya on Monday, has killed two French nationals.

Kenyan Police say the two were killed while filming.

The two men have been identified as Pierre Creisson, aged 53, and Thierry Barbier, 56.

Police said the crash took place some 90 miles north of Nairobi.

“We received a phone call from one of the conservancy members that there was an airplane crash within Sera conservancy. I mobilised officers from Sorilibi and Wamba. We rushed to the scene whereby we found one airplane which was trying to take off but crashed about one kilometre from the airstrip,” local police chief, Jackson Mulupi, said.

Pierre Creisson was a television journalist. He was famous for having been incarcerated for almost a month in Niger between December 2007 and January 2008, along with another journalist Thomas Dandois.

Thierry Barbier flew over 87 countries aboard his ULM aircraft.

Their bodies are expected to be flown to the capital, Nairobi.
